Begin by asking: What are my business goals? Ask people

throughout the organization to gather information. You need to

know what workers need to achieve before you can even start

to design. Are their jobs directed inward or outward? Do their

jobs keep their heads down? How do they interact with others?

Get access to department heads and staff so you can dig for

answers to questions. This can reap big rewards, both in

functional design and getting buy-in to the design once it is

completed. Before you jump on the "faster better cheaper"

story, ask yourself- better for whom?
